        General Fault

        iBR Malfunction

        P1661 is a general indication that the ECM has detected a problem involving the iBR system.

        • Look for accompanying iBR C-codes or communication codes.
        • Inspect the reverse gate for obvious binding.
        • Check battery condition and electrical connections.
        • Do not use P1661 alone to condemn the iBR module.

        Movement

        Actuator Movement Warning

        The reverse gate is not reaching its desired position within the expected amount of time.

        • Inspect the reverse gate and nozzle area.
        • Look for debris, wear, damage or binding.
        • Inspect iBR motor wiring.
        • Persistent faults after mechanical causes are ruled out can point toward the iBR assembly.

        Movement Fault

        Reverse Gate Cannot Reach Position

        The reverse gate cannot move to its requested position. A stuck mechanism or open motor circuit can cause this fault.

        • Check the gate and nozzle for binding or damage.
        • Inspect actuator/motor wiring.
        • Determine whether the external gate mechanism is mechanically free.
        • If the mechanism is free and the fault persists, actuator/module diagnosis becomes more important.

        Calibration / Memory Fault

        These faults can involve corrupted sensor or application calibration, incompatible firmware or an internal memory problem.

        • Diagnostic software may be required.

        Motor Current

        iBR Motor Current Too High

        The system has detected excessive iBR motor current or a motor-drive problem.

        • Check the gate for mechanical resistance first.
        • Inspect the nozzle and reverse mechanism for damage.
        • Check battery power and connections.
        • If the mechanism is free, the actuator/motor drive becomes more suspect.

        iBR DC Motor Circuit Fault

        The iBR system has detected the DC motor circuit shorted toward ground or battery voltage.

        The iBR system has detected inadequate electrical supply voltage.

        • Load test the battery.
        • Inspect battery terminals and main grounds.
        • Check fuses and charging-system operation.
        • Correct the voltage problem before considering iBR replacement.

        Power Loss

        Application Parameters / Battery Power Loss

        This fault can follow an unexpected loss of battery power or an internal memory-related problem.

        • Verify starting-system wiring.
        • Verify charging-system operation.
        • Clear the fault and retest after electrical problems are corrected.
