📧 Get Help With My 951 EngineFirst: Do You Have a 951 Carb or a 951 DI?
The Sea-Doo 951 carb and 951 DI engines are related, but they are not the same buying path. Before ordering parts, make sure you know which version you have.
951 Carb Engine
A carbureted 951 uses carburetors and a more traditional fuel system. These are commonly found in late-1990s and early-2000s Sea-Doo models such as GTX, XP Limited, GSX Limited, and RX carb models.
Quick clue: If you see carburetors and no direct-injection system, you likely have the 951 carb version.
951 DI Engine
The 951 DI is the direct-injected version. It uses a different fuel-injection system and requires DI-specific parts. These are commonly found in models labelled DI, such as GTX DI and RX DI.
Quick clue: If your machine says DI or has the direct-injection fuel system, do not order standard carb 951 parts without confirming fitment.

View CrankshaftWhat Usually Goes Wrong With Sea-Doo 951 Engines?
The 951 is a powerful two-stroke Sea-Doo engine, but age, fuel issues, oiling problems, overheating, water ingestion, and worn components can lead to major failure.
Low Compression
Hard starting, weak acceleration, poor idle, or uneven compression can point to piston, ring, cylinder, or top-end wear.
Bottom-End Noise
Knocking, vibration, bearing noise, or metal debris can suggest crankshaft or bearing damage.
Major Engine Failure
Seizure, water damage, broken internals, or heavy case damage may make a full reman engine the cleanest solution.
Choose the Right Repair Path
Not every failed 951 needs the same solution. This page helps you choose between repairing the top end, rebuilding the engine yourself, or replacing the motor with a UEW remanufactured shortblock.
1. Top End Repair
Best when the crankshaft and lower end are healthy, but the pistons, rings, or cylinders need attention.
2. Crankshaft / Bottom End Needed
If you need a crankshaft, your repair is moving closer to full engine replacement. Inspect the cases for cracks, corrosion, water damage, or broken mounting areas.
3. Drop-In Shortblock
Best when you want the fastest, cleanest solution with a remanufactured engine ready to install and warranty-backed peace of mind.
Important Fitment Note: 951 Carb vs 951 DI
Do not assume 951 carb and 951 DI parts interchange. The DI version uses direct-injection-specific components and may require different parts than the carbureted version.
If you are unsure, send us your year, model, photos, and any engine tag or casting information before ordering.
Core Charge Information
This engine may require a refundable core charge. UEW commonly uses a refundable core charge depending on engine size and product type. Your core must generally be returned complete, rebuildable, and matching the engine purchased. Final core approval depends on inspection.
Customers can usually choose to pay the core charge and have an in-stock item ship quickly, or send their core first for inspection before the order is completed.

Are Sea-Doo 951 carb and 951 DI engines the same?
No. They are both part of the 951 family, but the DI version uses direct injection and requires DI-specific fitment confirmation.
How do I know if I have a 951 DI?
If your Sea-Doo model is labelled DI, or if it has the direct-injection fuel system, treat it as a 951 DI and confirm fitment before ordering.
Do I need a full engine or just a top end?
If compression is low but the crankshaft and lower end are healthy, a top-end repair may be enough. If there is crank noise, metal debris, water damage, or severe failure, a shortblock may be the better solution.
Is there a core charge?
Most remanufactured engines include a refundable core charge depending on the exact engine and product. Core approval depends on inspection.
Can UEW help confirm fitment?
Yes. Email your year, model, engine size, and photos. UEW can help confirm the correct replacement before ordering.
